US Atheros Communications to Take Stake in China's Opulan Technologies

US-based Atheros Communications announced the acquisition of China's Opulan Technologies on July 20, 2010, according to Commercial Times of Taiwan. Under the terms of the agreement, Atheros is required to pay Opulan shareholders approximately US$72 million in cash. A total of 111 employees working at Opulan's Beijing and Shanghai offices will be transferred to Atheros along with the acquisition. It is projected that the deal will be closed in the third quarter of 2010.

Atheros Communications is a developer of semiconductor system solutions for wireless and network communications products. The Shanghai-based Opulan is a private-owned fabless semiconductor company, focusing on providing PON (Passive Optical Network) and broadband access aggregation solutions.
